Two hours a couple of years ago heading into San Francisco when there was a multiple car pile up and a fire. We all got out of the car and had a picnic.

Close to half an hour when Harrah's Casino Council Bluffs shot off their fireworks July 4th a few years back and us employees had to wait it out. Got smart now and volunteered for traffic control or just sit it out inside.

10 hrs on interstate in VA due to ice storm that caused multiple accidents. At least I got my 10 hr DOT required break in & didn't have to find a spot to park my rig for the night!

Traveling through Denver once, I had my car turned-off for 3 hours & 17 minutes once, caught behind an 11 car pile-up in 2003. At least I saved some gas compared to a stop and go situation for that long!

When I have been driving, the longest I've been held up in traffic is approx 30 minutes.
I will never forget a situation where my family was stuck in a huge traffic jam on the Indiana Toll Road, somewhere between before the Michigan City exit. We could see the West bound traffic moving fairly well, though our lanes (EB) were not moving at all. We were lucky to move several car lengths in 2 hours. Finally we moved up a bit more quickly, and after about 3 1/2 hours we were able to exit at the Michigan City exit. We finally heard that there was a major gas line break between the Michigan City and LaPorte exits, and all traffic was being rerouted!
I was approx. 14 yr old, and can remember that event just as if it had happened last week. I am now between 35-40 yr older, so you know it made a big impression on me! We did shut off the ignition, starting it only when it was necessary to move up in line. Luckily the weather was not too hot, so air conditioning was not an issue!
